singing in the rain

 singing quote

This film reminds me of so many happy memories when I hear that music, and see those dance numbers, it makes me smile.

Singing in the Rain was a fantastic movie with beautiful music and it formed the genre well for musicals and movies about musical productions in hollywood.

I always liked the number…Gotta Dance!

Here is the basic plot…A spoof of the turmoil that afflicted the movie industry in the late 1920’s when movies went from silent to sound. When two silent movie stars’, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, latest movie is made into a musical a chorus girl is brought in to dub Lina’s speaking and singing. Don is on top of the world until Lina finds out.

This really was a thing, some actresses couldn’t get parts because of poor speech or they just couldn’t talk correctly. However with the brilliance of other people involved, the films were successful thanks to the voice work related to the film.

Like I said, I enjoy the movie. It was directed by Gene Kelley and Stanley Donen. The music was arranged by Arthur Freed, Nacio Herb Brown, and Lennie Hayton.

You can get the soundtrack on Amazon.

You can also find it on ITunes. This is a lot of Gene Kelly movie score and singing, so its hard to find it just with the soundtrack on ITunes
