Hello to my year end review of the scores that I highlight for the best of my 2016 year. These are not new releases in my list, unless you count one.

I wanted to look back and see what scores have affected me the most in listening to music.

The first on my list is The Princess Bride, The score is done by Mark Knopfler, the way he makes his composition sing with emotion and backstory, you can almost feel like you are living part of the tale.

Here is a highlight from that score…

You can find the score on Amazon.

The next score on my list is Forbidden Planet.

You can hear me talk about this movie on my podcast at Soundtrackalley.podbean.com. Click the link and it will take you to the episode.

There has never been a science fiction film that has affected so much more as Forbidden Planet has. The score was composed by Louis And Bebe Barron. It’s amazing the work they did.

My next score is from a Television Show that so far has shined above a lot of others in its drama and music. Poldark from the PBS station has been an amazing piece of drama.

The television score was composed by Anne Dudley and she does an exquisite job of bringing heart and drama to the small screen.

My next score is actually from one of the movies from this past year 2016. It is called Kubo and the Two Strings, not only does it amaze with visuals but the scoring by Dario Marianelli & Regina Spektor really highlight the fantasy in this animated feature film

My next score that i’m highlighting is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

John Williams will probably be on my list of scores for a very long time. I just can’t get enough of John Williams music.

My next score is from the worldwide acclaimed movie by Disney. The Little Mermaid.

This film with the score by Alan Menkin and lyrics by Howard Ashman. It’s beautiful, haunting, romantic and musical.

The next score I would like to present is The Land Before Time. James Horner died in 2015, however he left a legacy of music.

My next score is The Hunt for Red October. Basil Poledouris did an amazing job with the film score to this, his music still influences composers today with his style and flare that he put into the film.

My next score is a epic film score done back in 1939. Gone With the Wind by Max Steiner.
