Racetrack: Jack Kelly? Yeah, he was here, but he put an egg in his shoe and beat it.
This fun and delightful musical from the early 90’s brings warm feelings bubbling up into my mind. I love this film and it was at the end of the age of musicals for Disney. Disney took a break from musicals and the most recent events of musicals have brought Disney to the modern age to bring back the age of musicals with such films as Beauty and the Beast and the like.
Newsies is actually based on real events that occurred in the 1920’s. Here is the basic plot…In this musical, homeless New York City newsboy Jack “Cowboy” Kelly (Christian Bale) befriends two newcomers to his trade, brothers David (David Moscow) and Les Jacobs (Luke Edwards). When publisher Joseph Pulitzer (Robert Duvall) sets new rules that make it harder for the young newspaper salesmen to make a buck, the boys go on strike. Bryan Denton (Bill Pullman), a journalist who’s sympathetic to their plight, gives them some tips in public relations, as the newsboys’ battle grips the city.
The film is directed by Kenny Ortega and the songs are composed by Alan Menken and J.A.C. Redford. It had a great premise and even greater delivery. Newsies stands as one of my top 10 musicals.

Prefer sound track of Newsies of the stage show. The songs are incredible live and sound better than the movie versions

The thing with Newsies, the stage show, is that they have added Katherine into the story, who becomes the reporter and Jack’s love interest. I have heard part of the Newsies movie soundtrack and the stage show songs sound better
