He-Man: I have the power!
Skeletor: YOU! You will no longer stand between me and my destiny!
He-Man: But I will! I told you that it’s always between us!
Skeletor: I ache to smash you out of existence! To drive your cursed face from my memories forever!
He-Man: Enough talk!
Skeletor: YES! Let this be our final battle!
By the Power of Greyskull, I have the power! He-Man, an 80’s toy line put out by Hasbro that found its way to the Silver Screen with the help of Dulph Lundgren and Frank Langella.
The movie is supposed to be a fantasy, but it is turned on its head as a Science Fiction romp with the characters from the toys and tv cartoon series winding up in modern day Earth.
Here is the basic plot…When the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella) finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible. However, courageous warrior He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) locates inventor Gwildor (Billy Barty), who created the Key and has another version of it. During a battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers Julie (Courteney Cox) and Kevin (Robert Duncan McNeill). Now both He-Man and Skeletor’s forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon.
The film was directed by Gary Goddard and the score was done by Bill Conti, not a name well known, but for this film he was. One other point of trivia. Robert Duncan Mcneal shows up in this film, Star Trek fans will know him as Tom Paris from Star Trek Voyager. There is my Star Trek connection this week.
The music is a blend of orchestra and synth music of the 90’s.
You can find the soundtrack on Amazon.
