Dr. Robert Campbell: I found a cure for the plague of the 20th century, and now I’ve lost it!
This movie about finding a cure to cancer is very cerebral and influential into the human mind and seeing how corporatations try to ruin the rain forest. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It gives you the wisdom of an older man and the learned of the young, along with some very influential tribal customs that people don’t ever imagine.
Here is the basic plot…Brilliant, eccentric research scientist Richard Campbell (Sean Connery), after living for six years in the Amazon jungle, has possibly discovered a cure for cancer. Dr. Rae Crane (Lorraine Bracco) is sent by the pharmaceutical company they both work for to check up on him. Upon arrival, she contends with Campbell’s reluctance to work with a woman. But the two must join forces to fight commercial loggers intent on destroying the jungle and research his cure — all while falling in love.
John McTiernan directed the film with Jerry Goldsmith weaving a brilliant tropical forest score throughout, it reminds you partly of James Horner’s work on Avatar and other movies such as Gorillas in the Mist as well. I loved the score that Goldsmith composed.
