“Space…The Final Frontier, these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s ongoing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new lifeforms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
These are the words of James T. Kirk from every Star Trek TOS episode. We get some grand world building with this original motion picture that came out in 1979.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture, a great feat in music history for Jerry Goldsmith. The sweeping score is fantastic and iconic, which makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Its about the crew of the Enterprise back together after their five year mission and they are investigating a strange source of power that is destroying ships and outpost. The source is a satellite merged with alien technology. VEGER is what it called itself. Well we all know it as Voyager IV. Anyway… action adventure, long sweeping shots of the Enterprise, and Spock in a spacesuit.
Today you’ll hear Erik Woods from Cinematic Sound Radio and myself discuss the film, its awe and wonder, its elements of exploration, and so much more. We include a lot regarding Jerry Goldsmith and his contribution into the world of film music. I hope you can sit back, relax and enjoy this program. This is but the beginning of our week of Star Trek. We will go through five films in the series. One each day.
