Forbidden Planet

The movie Forbidden Planet is not only a cult classic but also an homage to the original works of William Shakespheare. His work on the play “The Tempest” is what Forbidden Planet comes from. You can see the similarities with the plot of the film as an overall movie.

Forbidden Planet has caught the imagination of millions of viewers even with it being a 1956 film. The website Den of Geek has an article that was published quite recently that gives us insight into the influence that Forbidden Planet has had on such works like Star Trek and even Star Wars. I love this movie and continue to enjoy it. The Blu-Ray edition is the way to go with the viewing of this science fiction classic. If you decide to go out and buy the movie definately get the blu-ray edition.

The basic plot of Forbidden Planet is this…In this sci-fi classic, a spacecraft travels to the distant planet Altair IV to discover the fate of a group of scientists sent there decades earlier. When Commander John J. Adams (Leslie Nielsen) and his crew arrive, they discover only two people: Dr. Morbius (Walter Pidgeon) and his daughter, Altaira (Anne Francis), who was born on the remote planet. Soon, Adams begins to uncover the mystery of what happened on Altair IV, and why Morbius and Altaira are the sole survivors.

The film director was Fred M. Wilcox and the score was done by Bebe Barron and Louis Barron. It’s very 1950’s and is basically made up of electronic sounds and whistles that help set the eerie mood of the film.
